People with speech and language disabilities: autism, cognitive disability, traumatic brain injury, aphasia after a stroke, dementia, or other conditions
Disabilities can affect people in different ways:
- Speech: unclear or no speech
- Language: understanding/expression
- Combination: can also include reading and writing
- People may also have other physical, sensory, cognitive and other disabilities
What are barriers to communication?
Sometimes people are: Afraid to talk to us. Assume we can't hear. Assume we don't understand. Think we are drunk.
