What is SOGI?  Sexual Orientation Gender Identity

"Queer" is a reclaimed word (empowering) for the (L) community.

Student Q's:

• Are straight people a part of the (L) community?  No
• Why do you support the (L) community?  What was your motivation or spark that wanted you to support the (L) community?
• Apart from addressing the issues of (L) how have you supported the community?
• I believe SOGI is pushing a far left agenda.  Why should students be forced to attend?
• In SJ we talk about marginalized groups throughout history (women, people of colour, Indigenous, and now gender identity/expression)
• What do you think about people that believe there is too much focus recently on (L) ideas?
• How is teaching about SOGI different from teaching religious beliefs or beliefs in general?
•  What do you think about people that believe there is too much focus on (L) ideas and causes you children to have a negative influence & question their gender?
• What are the differences between queer, asexual & pansexual?
• If you like men and women ad you happen to fall in love with a transgender woman, does that make you pansexual?
• Will identifying as (L) affect future career opportunities?

64% of (L) students report feeling unsafe at school.

Homophobia and transphobia affect all students, whether they identify as (L) or not.  As many heterosexual as (L) students reported harassment against SOGI.

33% of (L) youth have attempted suicide in comparison to 7% of youth in general
